With the development of smart parking systems, the demand for license plate recognition systems is increasing. License plate recognition uses high-definition cameras to scan, identify, and confirm vehicle license plate numbers, enabling automatic gate opening and closing actions in parking lots.

License plate recognition systems can be divided into hardware and software recognition.
Hardware recognition uses hardware (license plate recognition units or front-end hardware recognition devices) to process characters in captured license plate images. Hardware recognition uses video stream analysis and provides real-time monitoring of images within the monitoring range, 24/7. Ground sensors and video triggering are optional, requiring no additional detection equipment or engineering work, and it collects images 24/7.
Software recognition involves installing relevant license plate recognition software on a computer. It uses a camera to continuously capture images, selecting the highest-resolution images for character processing to complete license plate recognition. This method photographs vehicles entering a designated area and requires additional ground sensors or infrared vehicle detection equipment, necessitating a certain amount of engineering work.
